  • Good and Bad News
July 28, 2010 - According to economists the good news is that the US economy is no longer shedding jobs.  But the bad news is that we still have a long way to go.
  • Unemployed Need Not Apply
July 28, 2010 - As the recession rages, corporations are frustrating many unemployed workers by eliminating them from hiring pools. As you'll see, some HR departments believe jobless Americans aren't worth hiring.
  • TRADE ACT
When the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was passed in late 1993, Newsweek reported that “union leaders tried to argue that free trade is the source of all lost jobs. But that is largely a blue-collar myth.” Nearly seventeen years later, that “blue-collar myth” is an American reality.

Hawaiian Air reaches tentative agreement with mechanics union

Advertiser Staff

Hawaiian Airlines announced today that it has reached tentative agreement with its mechanics union on a four-year contract.

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, District 142, includes 600 employees working as aircraft inspectors, mechanics, line service, cleaners, and contract service personnel. Union members are expected to vote on the new contract in the coming weeks.

The union said on its Web site that the agreement calls for yearly pay increases of 5 percent, 3 percent, 3 percent and 4 percent, plus returned holidays.

The union said its negotiating committee is unanimously recommending ratification of the contract.

Hawaiian's mechanics union is the last of the company's labor groups to reach a new agreement. The airline previously negotiated new labor contracts with its pilots, flight attendants, clerical workers, and dispatchers.

Local Lodge T-Shirts

The Lodge is currently exploring the possibility of having t-shirts made with the IAM and Local Lodge 1979 logo on it ... Several samples of the new logos have been drawn up and we'd like your input and assistance in selecting one of the samples provided here or you can suggest something different. We'd like to offer our members both Long and Short sleeve shirts and will start off with white as the initial color. The shirts will be sold to members at the same cost the Lodge pays for them. Please contact the Lodge if you have any questions and/or ideas.

Change of Address

In an effort to keep its membership informed, each year your Local and District Lodge sends out information through the postal mail. Associated with these mailings not only are there printing costs, but also there are mailing costs. This mailing cost continues to rise on a regular basis and is a big expense to the Lodge.
